2008 NEWSLETTER
Another deer season is behind us and without a doubt 2008 proved to be one
of the most challenging as far as deer hunting in Alberta was concerned.
Weather was our main problem, the November 2008 average temperature of
-1C(30F) and the 2007 average temperature of -14C(6F). With less than
half the usual precipitation life was fairly balmy and the deer where just
not moving. According to environment Canada, 1971 was the last time the
weather was this warm. Although we did have 14 hunters and 10 connected,
with 100% of the hunters having opportunities.
The good news is we know the deer are still there and will be waiting for us
next year, a number of good bucks were spotted but unfortunately we could not
close the deal. John Schifflette spotted 2 160 BC bucks, one was 800 yds and
the other hid his vitals' behind a tree and concealed the shot. Tom Griffith
watched a 185 BC buck, hot on a doe, crossing a cut line too fast for a shot
... the buck never did show again. Heather Grove had an opportunity at a
150 - 155 class deer but due to a rifle malfunction the deer gets to live
another day. Judy Hunsaker spotted a 155 BC buck, which never did present
a clear shot due to the tall underbrush in the area. These are just some
of the bucks that we had seen imagine how many were still hiding in the
brush that we did not see.
One can never stop learning about whitetails; we continue to learn more
about them every year. This year was no exception in the deer education
department, we had to change some of our hunting tactics and adapt to the
mild weather, which eventually gave us more opportunities. These are
elusive animals and are an exciting challenge to hunt. I invite everyone
to check out our photos and Videos in our

can talk about hunting all day long.
Good luck and Shoot straight
